Leaders’ statements

Leaders speak on the record. Prime ministers, presidents, the offices of heads of state, and the leaders of international organisations publish their statements, readouts, and remarks through official channels. This repository gathers those statements from authorised sources and sets them out in one place, so that what a leader said, and when, can be read from the record rather than from reporting about it.

Every entry links back to the official source it was drawn from. The Centre adds nothing to the words and takes nothing away; the value is in the gathering, the ordering, and the ability to set one leader’s statements beside another’s. The same material is prepared for the Knowledge libraries, so a system running on your own hardware can be asked what a leader has said and answer from the source text.

Sources

The repository is a set of key governments and organisations: Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, France, India, Ukraine, South Africa, China, the United Nations, NATO, and the European Union’s European Commission. Sources are limited to the official channel of each leader: for Canada, the statements published by the Office of the Prime Minister; for the United States, the White House; for the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister’s Office; for Russia, the transcripts published by the Office of the President. The list continues to widen.
