Courses

Short courses on national security, cyberspace, and emerging technology, for students, professionals, and practitioners.

The Centre offers a pilot series of short courses for advanced students, policy professionals, and practitioners who need to engage seriously with the intersection of national security, law, and technology. Each course runs across six two-hour blocks, twelve contact hours, with a publication pathway for outstanding work.

Courses are open to participants from government, academia, regulated industry, and civil society. Separate fees apply for students and professionals, and every course can be delivered in English or bilingually on request. Delivery mode and cohort size are confirmed at enrolment.

Post-quantum and quantum-resilient cryptography

Science and technology

The cryptography protecting Canadian government, financial, and critical-infrastructure systems rests on problems a capable quantum computer will one day solve. That machine does not yet exist, but data intercepted today can be stored until it does, and the migration to resistant cryptography is already underway.

States conduct operations in and through cyberspace every day, yet the governing legal framework is contested, fragmented, and under active construction. A coherent legal analysis is now a prerequisite for serious work on strategic competition, armed conflict, and the security of civilian infrastructure.

Artificial intelligence now runs through cyber-defence, intelligence analysis, autonomous systems, and information operations. Serious engagement means working across the technical and governance perspectives at once, so the course is co-taught and pairs both.

Sovereignty in cyberspace: a Canadian and allied perspective

Sovereignty in cyberspace fragments into technological, digital, and data layers that are often used interchangeably and should not be. The course works through each with Canada as the running case, anchored by three peer-reviewed papers at ICCWS (2020) and NATO CyCon (2020 and 2021).


Publication pathway

Outstanding work from the final block is invited into the NSCOESN commentary series, and for the sovereignty course may be considered for co-authorship with the instructors. Participation is optional.

Fees are confirmed at enrolment, with separate rates for students and professionals. Delivery mode, in-person, hybrid, or online, and cohort size are confirmed with each cohort.
